2024 was a year of action, collaboration, and innovation. Across our global network, members came together to share knowledge, align on a shared purpose, and navigate the complexities of sustainable agriculture together.
This report reflects the growing need for connection, the value of shared insight, and the power of collective action in shaping a more resilient, regenerative, and commercially viable future for food and farming.
Change and uncertainty define our era. Today, we operate in a landscape shaped by evolving regulations, mounting economic pressures and waves of new taxation policies demanding constant adaptation. In the face of these dynamics a question was recently put to me: Is sustainable agriculture still the right thing to do?
The question did not imply any doubt about the urgency of climate change. Instead, it was a poignant concern regarding the intensity of competing priorities and constrained resources that businesses are facing.
While each company must determine its own course, I believe that from the perspective of the food supply chain, our resolve lies in finding the sweet spot, that intersection between value creation for farmers, professionalisation at farm level, and credible, scalable sustainability. By achieving this balance we will build resilient food systems, safeguard business viability, and de-risk supply chains for the future.
A pivotal concept here is “resilience” and at SAI Platform, this mindset guides everything we do. We are striving to enable resilience and circularity across global food systems, ensuring that farmers, businesses, and the wider agri-food industry can not only adapt, but thrive.
This year, I have seen firsthand the power of large-scale collaboration and a shared drive to transform. As a trusted partner for businesses seeking to translate ambition into action and bring solutions to scale, SAI Platform continues to play a vital role.
To truly drive transformation, we need to collaborate across the supply chain and act with urgency and alignment.
SAI Platform was founded by companies who recognised they could not act alone, and today, that insight has never been more relevant. To truly drive transformation, we need to collaborate across the supply chain and act with urgency and alignment.
Safeguarding for the next 20 years
This year, SAI Platform focused on preparing for the future. Through our three-pillar 2030 strategy, we are aligning our working groups, projects and industry solutions into a cohesive framework.
Gateway to Expertise
Providing clarity in complex sustainability discussions, bringing in experts, and breaking down industry challenges with pragmatic solutions.
Collaborative Action
Uniting members to co-develop best practices, ensuring businesses are not only responding to change, but actively shaping it.
Industry Solutions
Creating the tools and frameworks to scale sustainability in ways that are both practical and commercially viable.
By taking this bold step forward, we are not only supporting our members today but also ensuring SAI Platform is well-positioned to lead for the next 20 years.
Shaping the future together
Meaningful change will not be driven by regulations and policy alone. It is here that we, the industry must step up to co-design solutions that are grounded in agronomy, economics, and science. We cannot afford to be missing from the table or speaking in fragmented voices. Collective action is our strength. Therefore, the next few years will be defining moments for our industry.
Our collaborative approach is our advantage, so let’s leverage SAI Platform. Be clear on why we are part of SAI Platform and how we have an opportunity to be part of shaping the future. This is the time to engage, make the most of what SAI Platform offers and co-create the future of sustainable agriculture.
No matter what external forces we face, change is the only constant. Those who embrace resilience, build circularity into their models, and engage in collaborative action will be defining the future.
This is the moment to join us, shape the transition, and drive meaningful impact, together.
People are at the heart of sustainable food systems. Right now, the agri-food industry is steering a once-in-a-century transformation which necessitates bold action, meaningful collaboration, and scalable innovation. Dairy GHG Chain of Custody (CoC) Project
Bridging the gap: Advancing scope 3 GHG accounting in dairy
As the food and agriculture sector accelerates efforts to address climate change, tackling Scope 3 greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions remains one of the greatest challenges.
These indirect emissions, which occur across the value chain, often account for the largest portion of a company’s carbon footprint. However, they remain the most complex to measure, report, and manage.
In 2024, recognising the critical need for sector-wide alignment, we joined forces with the Global Dairy Platform (GDP) to launch the Dairy GHG Chain of Custody (CoC) Project. This collaborative effort aims to build consensus, address data gaps, and develop practical solutions for Scope 3 accounting in the dairy sector.
A testament to the power of collaboration
The Dairy GHG Chain of Custody Project aims to deliver greater clarity and consistency in Scope 3 accounting, improved data sharing mechanisms, and actionable insights for reducing emissions. By aligning a common framework, the dairy industry can demonstrate its commitment to climate action and secure its place in a low-carbon future.
Why this project matters
Scope 3 GHG accounting presents considerable challenges for the dairy industry despite existing guidelines such as the Greenhouse Gas Protocol (GHGP).
These include:
The lack of dairy sector-specific guidance in existing protocols making reporting inconsistent and often impractical.
Issues with data availability and accessibility meaning that companies struggle to obtain reliable emissions data, limiting their ability to track progress toward Science-Based Targets (SBTi).
GHG attribution complexities because defining emissions responsibility and claiming intervention benefits are often unclear.
Market variations due to different incentives, regulations, and reporting requirements that create discrepancies in GHG accounting approaches.
What this project aims to do
Scope 3 GHG challenges cannot be solved in isolation as they require industry-wide coordination. By leading this initiative, we are supporting our members to navigate GHG accounting complexities while driving the broader dairy sector toward a more transparent and sustainable future.
Key steps to project success
Develop clear, sector-specific guidance for dairy Scope 3 accounting
Enhance data-sharing practices to improve reporting accuracy
Facilitate collaboration across the dairy supply chain to streamline GHG measurement
Accelerate progress toward a unified, science-based approach to emissions reductions
Being part of the Dairy Working Group has been instrumental in aligning our efforts as dairy buyers and dairy processors, transforming sustainability reporting expectations into meaningful collaboration that is paving the way for real, impactful solutions across the industry.

Peanut GHG Emissions and Regenerative Agriculture Project
Argentina is one of the world’s leading peanut producers, yet like many agricultural sectors, it faces growing challenges related to soil degradation, climate resilience, and sustainability expectations from global markets.
Ensuring the long-term viability of peanut production requires a holistic approach that integrates greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions reduction, soil health improvement, and regenerative farming practices. Recognising this, SAI Platform and its members launched the Argentina Peanut GHG Emissions and Regenerative Agriculture Project.
Using SAI Platform’s Regenerating Together Framework and the Cool Farm Tool (CFT), the project brought together producers, suppliers, and industry leaders to establish a scientifically robust baseline for greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and regenerative agriculture practices across 25 farms spanning 7,500 hectares.
Project approach
Establishing a greenhouse gas emissions and regenerative agriculture baseline
The project starts with a fact-finding-mission to establish a greenhouse gas emissions and regenerative agriculture baseline.
Based on the results of this, SAI Platform is facilitating the development of an action-based agenda to scale the adoption of regenerative agriculture practices that support on-farm biodiversity, improve soil health and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
This agenda will also strive to explore regenerative finance mechanisms to incentivise farm-level transitions.
Exploring pathways to scale regenerative agriculture practices

Regenerative agriculture is gaining momentum as a transformative approach to food production, and scaling its impact requires collective action, knowledge exchange, and practical solutions.
Guiding the transition to regenerative agriculture
The Regenerating Together Programme (RTP) has been at the forefront of this transition, providing a structured framework and tools to support farmers, businesses, and stakeholders in transitioning towards regenerative agriculture.
To support members in this transition, a suite of guiding resources will be released to effectively implement the framework and meet third-party verification requirements.
Key achievements in 2024
Our Regenerating Together global framework for regenerative agriculture
A major milestone this year was the formalisation of the External Stakeholder Advisory Board, ensuring a balanced and informed approach to the RTP. Comprised of farmers, academics, and non-profit organisations, the board’s ten members play a critical role in maintaining a farmer-centric yet scientifically credible direction for the programme. Their insights help bridge the gap between academic research and on-the-ground implementation, ensuring regenerative practices are both effective and scalable.
Reviewing our framework with farmers and subject matter experts
Beyond the Advisory Board, the programme has actively engaged a broad network of members. Subject matter experts from within member organisations contributed to refining the Framework Narrative, released in October 2024. Their input has been instrumental in ensuring that the framework is practical and implementable with farmers and suppliers, enabling scalable regenerative agriculture solutions.
Strong collaboration across beef, crops and dairy sector
SAI Platform has been actively exploring ways to support members in areas such as financing and monitoring, reporting, and verification (MRV). Through workshops and strategic partnerships with leading institutions such as the International Finance Centre, International Trade Centre, Rockefeller Foundation, and EIT Food, we are addressing critical barriers to large-scale adoption.
Our focus in 2025
Building on the momentum of 2024, our focus for 2025 will be on gathering insights and sharing learnings from real-world applications.
Several multi-stakeholder projects will be launched to apply the Regenerating Together Framework across diverse agricultural contexts, including:
Dairy systems in Northwestern Europe
Arable cropping in Denmark
Smallholder farming in India
Multi-crop rotation in Spain
As the industry continues to accelerate regenerative agriculture, the Regenerating Together Programme remains committed to fostering collaboration, innovation, and measurable impact across the global food system.

As sustainability expectations evolve, the dairy industry is actively working to align on sustainability reporting, simplify processes, and drive meaningful progress.
SAI Platform’s Sustainable Dairy Partnership (SDP) continues to serve as the industry’s leading B2B sustainability reporting solution, helping businesses streamline reporting, reduce duplication, and drive collective progress toward a more sustainable dairy industry.
Harmonising dairy sustainability through the Sustainable Dairy Partnership
The SDP is one of the cornerstones of collaboration in the dairy industry, enabling businesses to work together toward shared sustainability goals.
Our approach to streamline reporting, strengthen transparency, and foster industry-wide alignment, ensures that dairy buyers, traders and processors using the SDP are fully equipped to deliver and go beyond dairy’s sustainability needs.

Key achievements in 2024
Expanding industry recognition and reach
In 2024, the SDP strengthened its position as the one industry solution for B2B sustainability reporting with the release of its third National Programme equivalency, Germany’s QM Milch. This milestone expands the SDP’s reach and ensures greater alignment across European dairy supply chains, reinforcing its role as a harmonised sustainability framework.
Achieving the first stage 5 verification
A major breakthrough was the successful completion of the first Stage 5 verification in December 2024, with Kerry Dairy Ireland utilising the Irish National Programme equivalency. This achievement highlights the SDP’s ability to harmonise sustainability expectations between dairy processors, traders and buyers, driving consistent, credible progress across the sector.
The SDP in 2025 and beyond
Recognising the evolving landscape of sustainability, the SDP underwent a comprehensive revision in 2024 led by the members of the Steering Committee.
Set to launch in 2025, the revised framework will refine its applicability, enhance alignment with industry needs, and ensure that the SDP continues to drive meaningful, measurable progress towards a more sustainable and resilient dairy industry.
These developments reflect the continuous commitment of the dairy industry to embed sustainability across dairy supply chains, with the SDP enabling dairy processors and buyers to streamline their efforts, ensuring a more collaborative and effective approach to achieving shared, impactful goals.
As dairy processors advance progress with the SDP, we see its true value when buyers also adopt it, unlocking efficiency and streamlining reporting requests.

SAI Platform ended 2024 in a healthy financial situation. Income exceeded expenditure which is positive as a larger revenue base is necessary to meet ever increasing ambitions for the organisation.
Year-on-year comparison of income vs expenditure (2023 / 2024).
SAI Platform is primarily financed by annual membership fees with additional revenue generated from industry solutions and event participation.
All activities undertaken across Working Groups and Industry Solutions are aligned with the strategic priorities of SAI Platform and designed to meet the evolving needs of a broad and diverse membership base.
Each year, the Executive Committee (ExCo) reviews and prioritises funding allocations based on detailed proposals submitted by the Secretariat. These are discussed and finalised during the annual face-to-face meeting held in Q4.
Continuing confidence
In 2024, membership growth exceeded targets, welcoming 18 new members, resulting in a net revenue gain of €286 000, after accounting six departing members. This positive trajectory reflects continued confidence in SAI Platform’s role as a leading industry convener. However, the number of outstanding membership fees by year end remains a concern. Ensuring more timely payments will be a key operational focus for 2025.
Balancing revenue, expenditure and reserves
Our financial objective remains to maintain a stable balance between revenue and expenditure with a healthy year end surplus to support the operating reserve and restructuring reserve as required by Swiss law. The reserve is reviewed annually to ensure it remains proportionate to SAI Platform’s growth and future commitments.
At year end, SAI Platform recorded a healthy operating surplus. This is essential as we move into the implementation phase of our 2025-2030 strategy, approved by members at the General Assembly. Strategic investment will be critical to maturing and scaling our industry solutions which are gaining increased recognition. In parallel, we are investing in organisational capacity to strengthen operational efficiency, ensure compliance and deliver on our ambition.
*Note: The operating reserve is not the delta between income and expenditure as it reflects the cumulative surplus from previous years and also provisions for unexpected expenses.
The financial statements for SAI Platform for the year ended 31 December 2023 were audited by Fiducaire TECAFIN SA, Geneva, Switzerland on 11th March 2024.
